- Due to the recent upsurge in popularity of the "70's 8-Track
- Casette Player Look" of the original "Walker" unveiled this week at
- CeBit '96, Amiga Technologies of Benzheim, Germany has announced their
- intention to ship the next generation of their "Walker" model in
- a 1977 PET-2001 case.
-
- "We could think of no better way to say "Our Computer Sucks!"
- than to decide upon the original case for the Walker, being as that
- it looks like a vaccum cleaner; when in actuallity, its an 8-Track
- Casette Player, which everyone knows is better than standard casette
- tapes.", says Amiga Technologies President and CEO, Peter Tytschenko.
-
- "We believe the fact that the keyboard, cpu, and monitor are
- all in one giant case will be more attractive for people to purchase,
- rather than having to buy three different items to make a system up."
- said Dr. Peter Kittel in a recent interview for NHK ComputerNews Weekly.
- "The addition of a chicklet keyboard should also be attractive to all
- 5 of our remaining customers because they are so easy to clean. We
- decided to have only 32K of ram in the Walker ][ because it makes
- checking RAM really fast. Our datasette drive and 5.25" floppy
- drives were also key to our decision, seeing as how cheap casettes
- and 5.25" disks are."
-
- When asked about why the monitor was monochrome green, Kittel
- responded "Its easy on the eyes."
-
- The "Walker ][" as it is tenatively called, is slated for release
- for Q4 '97, and will feature both a casette tape drive and a 160K 5.25"
- floppy drive with a blindingly fast I/O rate of 8K per second, and
- is expected to list for $4,500.00
